Cliff Lee Throws A Gem And Beats New York

Cliff Lee finally throw a game that is worth mentioning, behind a great game by Cliff Lee, the Phillies beat the New York Mets 2 to 1. The Phillies did not hit the ball very well, but some timely hitting by Cody Asche helped Lee and the Phillies win. The New York Mets did take the lead in the second inning, when Andrew Brown hit a single to center that scored Marlon Byrd making it 1-0 Mets. The lead did not last long, third baseman Cody Asche hit a 2 run triple in the 4th inning scoring Michael Young and Darin Ruf making it 2 to 1 Phils. That is all the Phillies and Cliff Lee needed, Cliff Lee pitched 8 innings, gave up 5 hits and 1 run while walking 1 and striking out 7. It was Cliff Lee’s first win since July 5th, after the game Cliff Lee spoke with Comcast SportsNet Gregg Murphy about his performance stating that it was not his best pitch count game but he made adjustments to make what he was throwing work. Lee throw 121 pitches in 8 innings. Jonathan Papelbon earned his 22nd save of the year in he win. This win is the Phillies 7th in 11 games, and brings Ryne Sandberg’s record as Phillies manager to 7 and 4. The Phillies look for 3 in a row tomorrow night against the New York Mets at Citi Field. The Phillies send Kyle Kendrick to the mound, the Mets counter with Jon Niese. The game is at 7:05pm on Channel 17.
