Frandsen and Kendrick Deliver In Series Victory!

The Phillies last night were going for their 3rd straight series victory against teams that are ahead of the Phillies either in the wild card or the NL East. The Phillies backed by Kyle Kendrick came out on top against the Nationals with a 3 to 1 win and sealed up another series victory for the Phillies. The Phillies did just enough to win the game and against an All Star pitcher in Jordan Zimmermann who was 12 and 3 going into last night’s game. The Phillies still won despite 4 errors (3 by Chase Utley and 1 by Michael Young). The Phillies struck first in the 5th inning when Ben Revere singled to left field, scoring Carlos Ruiz from second, who singled to start the inning. The next inning the Nationals came right back with a Ryan Zimmermann sac fly scoring Bryce Harper, who tripled previously.  The game was tied, and it looked like we were going to go to extra innings, but pinch hitter Kevin Frandsen came to bat in the bottom of the 7th and doubled to right field, scoring John McDonald who pinch ran for Darin Ruf who started the inning with a double. The Phillies have now taken the lead, then in the 8th Michael Young hit a fielder’s choice to score Utley making it 3 to 1 Phillies. In the ninth, Papelbon came in and sat the Nationals in order 1-2-3. It was Papelbon’s 20th save of the year and it got the Phillies one game closer to .500 and also second place. After the game Frandsen spoke about the Phillies trying to get this season on track, “I just think we’re starting to click, we’re starting to get some breaks to go our way,” Frandsen said. “First couple of months of the year, it was tough — I think everybody saw that. It wasn’t like we were playing bad baseball, but we were getting bad breaks. I think we’re getting fortunate breaks right now, and hey, we’ll take them whenever we can” (1).  The Phillies now start a new series against the AL Central Chicago White Sox’s. Jonathan Pettibone will take the mound and he will face John Danks. The game will feature the famous Xfinity Fireworks after the game. The game starts at 7:05pm and will be featured on Comcast SportsNet.
